Hm well there are a variety of ways. Seals, communicating with the spirits here has proven quite effective in terms of gaining new elements. As for overcoming such obstacles...it depends on the person's will to do so sometimes. Magic is often both mind and matter the manipulation of the elements comes from a person's willingness to use them.
